[Premium] Iran's Sales Gas Output up 9% on Year
Iran produced 9.3% more marketable gas in the fiscal year that ended March 20, reaching 214bn m3, according to the national Iranian gas company (NIGC) April 11. The report did not mention demand or exports but, according to NGW’s analysis, Iran exported 12.4bn m3 and the rest was used domestically.
Iran stopped importing gas from Turkmenistan in January 2017. It exported about 12.1bn m3 to Turkey and Iraq, and swapped the remainder for Armenian power at (1 m³ gas for 3 kWh of power).
During the previous fiscal year to March 20, 2017, Iran consumed 208bn m³ gas, according to a NIGC official document, seen by NGW. Iran’s gas exports in that year were a little more than 9bn m3, or over a third less than last year.
The US Energy Information Administration released a report April 9 estimating Iran’s total gross natural gas production at nearly 9.5 trillion ft³ in 2017 (269bn m³), of which 206.7bn m3 was dry natural gas, rising almost 9% compared with 2016, according to Rystad Energy. It said roughly 45.3bn m3 of the total was re-injected into oil wells to enhance oil recovery.
