Italian trio to drive energy transition in maritime sector
Eni, a global energy company, shipbuilder Fincantieri and RINA, a leading multinational inspection, certification, and engineering consultancy, have signed an agreement aimed at advancing initiatives for the energy transition, Eni said on March 25.
The partnership solidifies the commitment of Eni, Fincantieri, and RINA to collaborate on joint projects geared towards decarbonising the maritime sector in the medium to long term, Eni stated. One of the key objectives is to establish a permanent global observatory to monitor and analyse future technological, regulatory, and market developments.
As part of the agreement, the three companies will undertake an evaluation of alternatives to support the maritime decarbonisation pathway. This includes exploring complementary solutions to fuels already available for other hard-to-abate sectors, with a focus on innovation and sustainability.
The partnership will also explore various areas of interest, such as the analysis of reference energy infrastructure and the development of new logistic structures tailored to the evolving needs of the maritime sector, Eni said.
