Dalje: Croatian president informs US president of Croatia's energy potential

Croatian President Ivo Josipovic attended a joint lunch with US President Barack Obama in Warsaw on Tuesday, using the opportunity to inform the US president of Croatia's potential in terms of energy and energy security.

"Since we were sitting at the same table, I had the honour to talk to President Obama, who was sitting next to me. We discussed some specific issues. I underlined the issue of energy and Croatia's potential in that regard," Josipovic told reporters on Tuesday evening after attending earlier in the day a working lunch with presidents of east and central European countries and the US president.

They met in Warsaw to commemorate the 25 years since Poland's first free elections. Croatia can help, together with other countries, diversify energy sources, Josipovic said, adding that he mentioned a project to build a liquefied natural gas terminal and oil and gas reserves in the Adriatic, which he said could contribute to the energy independence of central and eastern Europe considering that energy security was one of the most important aspects jeopardised by "a kind of monopoly Russia has on the European market."
