Japan Keen to Expand in Russian LNG Sector
Japan is looking to expand its presence in Russian LNG projects in Sakhalin and Vladivostok and would be ready to provide financial assistance to these projects, Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Toshimitsu Motegi told a meeting of the budget commission of the parliament's lower house on Thursday, reports Voice of Russia.
"At the state level we would like to support these projects financially, in particular with assistance from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation," the minister said.
Japan is in the list of countries importing first 5 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas from Russian state-run oil company Rosneft's new LNG plant in Sakhalin to be delivered in 2018-2019, adds Voice of Russia.
Japan is world’s biggest importer of LNG. In 2013, the country imported record 87.49 million tonnes of LNG.
