Japan to support local production of LNG tanks

The Japanese government has announced a plan to support the domestic production of fuel tanks for ships powered by LNG, state-run NHK reported on December 14.

At present, most such tanks are imported. The government support will include a subsidy covering 50% of the cost of boosting production capabilities, the media outlet reported. The government is also planning to study whether it is possible to standardise the shape and materials of the tanks to streamline mass production.
