Japan's IHI eyes green ammonia production in India
Japan’s IHI has signed a memorandum of understanding with Indian renewable energy company ACME to study the feasibility of producing and utilising green ammonia derived from renewable energy, it said on February 21.
The companies will consider participation in green ammonia production projects, led by ACME, based in Oman, India, the US and Egypt, as well as the use of ammonia for decarbonised power generation in Asian islands and other regions, IHI said.
The Japanese firm is also studying co-firing in thermal power plants in India. IHI and Kowa Company last year agreed to conduct market research in India and to study the technical and economic feasibility of initiating 20% ammonia co-firing for existing coal boilers at Adani Power Mundra with a view to transitioning later to mono-firing.
Both companies will also undertake ammonia co-firing studies at other coal-fired facilities across India, including sites that Adani Power owns.
