Japan's K Line Receives LNG-Fuelled Car Carrier
Japanese shipping company K Line has taken delivery of LNG-fuelled car carrier, it said in a March 12 statement.
The carrier, Century Highway Green, had been under construction at Tadotsu Shipyard, part of the Imabari Shipbuilding Group. The vessel uses a dual-fuel main engine and auxiliary engines capable of operating on either LNG or marine gas oil. The main engine uses a high-pressure type ME-GI engine, reducing emissions of methane slip (unburnt gas), which is a greenhouse gas.

Century Highway Green has an LNG fuel tank capacity of 2,439 m3 and can carry 7,080 vehicles, K Line said. It is expected to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide by 25% to 30%, sulfur oxides by almost 100%, and nitrogen oxides by 80% to 90% with the use of exhaust gas recirculation in addition to the use of LNG fuel, compared to conventional vessels using heavy fuel oil.
