Japan's K Line takes delivery of new LNG-powered PCTC

Japanese shipping company K Line announced on September 3 that it has taken delivery of a new LNG-fuelled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC). The vessel, named Nereus Highway, was constructed by Chinese shipyard China Merchants Jinling Shipbuilding (Jiangsu) Co., marking the first LNG-fuelled ship that K Line has ordered from a Chinese shipyard.

LNG fuel is expected to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas (GHG), by 25% to 30% compared to conventional heavy fuel oil, as well as cut sulfur oxides (SOx), which contribute to air pollution, by almost 100%, and nitrogen oxides (NOx) by approximately 75%. The vessel also complies with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) NOx Tier 3 regulations.

The ship is equipped with WinGD's latest dual-fuel electronically controlled engine, the 7X62DF-2.1 iCER, which reduces methane emissions when using LNG fuel.

K Line has set a goal of achieving net zero GHG emissions by 2050
