Japan's Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Co. Joins Pacific Northwest LNG Project
Japan’s Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company (MGC) on Friday said it will join Canada based Petronas promoted Pacific Northwest LNG project.
MGC will buy 10 percent stake in JAPEX Montney, which owns a 10pc stake in the British Columbia project which will allow the company to offtake 120,000 t/yr of LNG from the project. The move comes despite the Malaysian energy firm deciding to defer final investment decision (FID) regarding the LNG project.
MGC will use the fuel to supply to its domestic factories to improve competitiveness, the company said.
Late last month, British Columbia granted environmental permit to Petronas backed export facility in Prince Rupert and the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission pipeline.
Petronas, Sinopec, JAPEX, Indian Oil Corporation and PetroleumBRUNEI are all shareholders in Pacific NorthWest LNG and the associated natural gas supply.
