Japan's Tsuneishi develops LNG-fuelled kamsarmax
Japanese shipbuilder Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co. on April 15 said it had completed the development of an LNG-fuelled kamsarmax dry bulk carrier.
Tsuneishi added it had obtained approval in principle from classification society Lloyd's Register for the carrier which is equipped with a dual fuel engine that will run on LNG or marine fuel. The carrier has a length of 229 m and a width of 32.26 m.

The company claims that the carrier can achieve a reduction of CO2 emissions of 40% or more compared to the standard value against the energy efficiency design index (EEDI), exceeding the International Maritime Organisation's 30% EEDI phase three reduction requirements for bulk carriers after 2025. Also, sulphur oxides and nitrogen oxides emissions have also been significantly reduced, it added.
The company will promote the use of LNG as fuel in other ship types and the development of zero-emission ships, it said.
