Jera, partners begin operations at Goi gas power unit 1

Jera, Eneos Power Corporation, and Kyushu Electric Power Company, operating through Goi United Generation, have commenced commercial operations at Unit 1 of the gas-fuelled Goi thermal power station in Chiba prefecture, Jera announced on August 1.

The launch of Unit 1 is part of a replacement project that Goi United has been undertaking, which includes the construction of three new units. Unit 1 employs a combined cycle gas turbine system and has a generating capacity of 780 MW. These three new units replace the old 1.886 GW power station, which consisted of six smaller units and ceased operations in 2018.

Units 2 and 3 will also have a capacity of 780 MW each. Unit 2 is expected to come online in November this year, while Unit 3 is scheduled to become operational in March next year.
