Kazakhstan Ready to Export Gas to India Using TAPI Pipeline
Kazakhstan is willing to supply gas to India using the proposed TAPI gas pipeline, country’s foreign minister Erlan Idrissov said during 3rd summit of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).
Idrissov said his country could supply as much as 3 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually through a proposed pipeline from Turkmenistan to India, Astana Times reported Thursday.
“Discussions are currently taking place with the Indian side about the possibility of increasing the capacity of the pipeline, taking into account the potential gas supplies from Kazakhstan. Our country is ready to transport up to 3 billion cubic metres annually through this pipeline,” he said.
Country’s gas production this year is expected to be around 42 bcm, he stated, adding Kazakhstan remains a reliable partner in stabilising the world energy market, the newspaper reported.
Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline will export up to 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India over 30 years. Construction work on the pipeline is expected to start next month.
