Kazakhstan Studying Unconventional Gas Potential

Kazakhstan will hold a comprehensive analysis of the feasibility of developing shale gas, one of the leaders of the National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna told Trend on Thursday on condition of anonymity.

"As a result of examination, we can determine the future perspective of shale gas development," the source said.

Trend report said that the result of the study would be announced on November 23.

The purpose of this study is to determine the presence and technical capacity of shale gas in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the analysis of the existing legal framework and proposals for improvement of the legal regulation of the sector.

Besides the analysis of shale gas, the study will analyse such sources as coal bed methane and tight gas formations.
