KBR secures engineering contracts for Petrobras' FPSO units in Brazil

KBR has been awarded engineering contracts by the Seatrium Group to develop topside facilities for two new high-production, energy-efficient floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) units, being designed for Petrobras' Atapu and Sepia fields in the Santos Basin, Brazil, it announced on September 5.

Under the contracts, KBR will provide Seatrium with detailed engineering services and technical engineering procurement support for the topsides of the P-84 and P-85 FPSOs, which are part of Petrobras' new generation of platforms. Each platform will be capable of producing 225,000 barrels/day of oil and compressing, treating, and re-injecting 10mn m³/dau of gas.

Aligned with Petrobras' all-electric concept, the design emphasises efficient power generation and optimised process plants, significantly enhancing energy efficiency. The FPSOs will also incorporate advanced technologies to minimise environmental impact, including zero routine flaring and venting, variable speed drives, and CO2 capture measures, aimed at greatly reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to designs lacking these features.
