KBR wins contract for conceptual study on floating blue ammonia production

New York-listed KBR has been awarded a contract by Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), one of South Korea's largest shipbuilders, for a conceptual study on floating blue ammonia production, KBR announced on 12 September.

"We are proud to collaborate with SHI on this strategic project and provide our low-carbon blue ammonia process technology to develop this pioneering floating ammonia production facility," said Jay Ibrahim, president of KBR's Sustainable Technology Solutions. "This concept will offer a sustainable platform for our clients globally to meet their energy transition goals with enhanced flexibility."

This award is part of SHI's broader move to diversify into the ocean energy sector, focusing on maritime technology. The study will employ KBR's blue ammonia technology, tailored for offshore production, and benefit from SHI's expertise in designing large-scale floating vessels.
