KrisEnergy Starts Drilling for Gas Onshore Bangladesh

KrisEnergy on September 5 said Bapex Bijoy 10 rig has started drilling of the Bangora-6 development well in the Block 9 production sharing contract, onshore Bangladesh.

Block 9 covers 1,770 km² and is about 50 km east of Dhaka. In 2015, gross production from the Bangora field averaged 106mn ft³/day and 291 barrels of condensate/day from four development wells.

KrisEnergy is the operator for Block 9 with a 30% working interest. Other partners in Block 9 are Niko Exploration with a 60% working interest and Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company with 10%. The company acquired the 30% working interest and operatorship of Block 9 in 2013. In March 2014, it was awarded a 45% non-operated working interest in the SS-11 exploration block.

Just like other emerging Asian economies, Bangladesh too is witnessing rising demand for natural gas. With natural gas being an important energy source in Bangladesh, the government is actively working on enhancing supplies of both domestic and imported gas. Last month, Excelerate Energy, Petrobangla, and the government of Bangladesh signed the final agreement for the construction and operation of Bangladesh's first LNG import terminal – Moheshkhali Floating LNG. The government expects the terminal will provide the crucial infrastructure required for the country to access natural gas from global markets.
