KUB-Gas to Begin Fracking Program in Ukraine By End of October
Kulczyk Oil Ventures Inc has announced today that KUB-Gas LLC will begin a reservoir stimulation program using fracking in Ukraine by the end of this month.
The work will begin on the Olgovskoye field, focusing initially on the O-6 and O-8 wells. KUB-Gas will conduct a cross-linked gel water frack into each well, using 30 tonnes of sand proppant for each. The program is due to begin in the last week of October.
KUB-Gas has chosen this method after earlier wireline test logs showed that the potential gas in the area would not flow at commercial rates when tested conventionally. The fracking will target the Middle Bashkirian silty sandstone interval at a depth of approximately 2,300 metres in both wells.
Executive Vice President of Kulczyck Jock Graham said that he believed this was the first time that fracking had been used in the Ukraine.
"To our knowledge this is the first frack of its kind in this part of Ukraine and we are excited about using technology developed in Canada to attempt to unlock the potential of some of the tight gas reservoirs underlying the KUB-Gas licenses. The fracks starting later this week are part of our program of using the latest technologies and production methods to enhance productivity, and while there is no assurance of success we will analyse all of the data to determine what lessons can be learned to insure future success."
KUB-Gas holds a 100 percent interest in the Olgovskoye licence, as well as a 100 percent stake in the Makeevskoye and North Makeevskoye, Krutogorovskoye and Vergunskoye licences in the same area in the Lugansk area of Ukraine. Kulczyk Oil holds a 70 percent stake in KUB-Gas, with Gastek LLC holding the other 30 percent.
