Kuwait LNG Imports in 2015 Expected to be 17% Higher

Kuwaiti LNG imports in 2015 are expected to be 3 million tons, up 17 percent on year.

Speaking on the sidelines of the CWC World LNG Summit on Friday, Khaled Al-Sabah, manager for naphtha, mogas and LPG sales of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) higher imports have been realised due to fall in the price of the fuel, reported new agency Reuters.

In 2014, Kuwait imported around 2.5 mt of LNG via its floating import terminal, which it leases for the peak energy demand months from March to November, with an option to extend over additional months, the news agency stated.

Al-Sabah said extending the lease of the terminal is being contemplated. A land based terminal is also expected to come online in 2020.

"The option to have both is still being studied," Reuters quoted Al-Sabah as saying.

Last month, Gazprom and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation signed an agreement to cooperate in the field of LNG.
