LNG Importers' Group Names New President
Jean Abiteboul has been named the new president of the International Association of LNG Importers (GIIGNL), the trade body said November 24. He succeeds Jean-Marie Dauger, who has held the position since 2016.
Abiteboul started his career with Gaz de France (now Engie) in 1975, where he held numerous positions, including executive vice-president for supply, trading and marketing, before becoming the senior vice president international of US Cheniere Energy in 2006. At that point the company was planning to become a major LNG importer as US gas was then expensive. But in 2012 as the shale revolution continued, the company had approval to turn the site into an export facility for domestic production.

He concluded the long-term contracts necessary for financing the Sabine Pass LNG liquefaction project in Louisiana, and later of the Corpus Christi liquefaction project in Texas. In 2010, he was also appointed president of Cheniere Marketing, a position he occupied until his retirement in November 2016.
Abiteboul said he looked forward to "serving GIIGNL, which plays a key role in advancing the LNG industry and in promoting LNG as a responsible solution for a sustainable energy future."
