LNG Imports May Not Eliminate Pakistan's Gas Shortage
Pakistan may not be able to tackle the problem of gas shortage despite importing LNG.
"So, it is feared that gas shortfall would not completely end despite bringing LNG to the country as it would go up by 6 billion cubic feet per day in 2020, viewing the increasing gas demands with each passing day," Pak Tribune quoted Naeem Malik, additional secretary petroleum as saying on Tuesday.
According to the official currently Pakistan was facing a shortfall of two billion cubic feet per day, which would surge to six bcfd by year 2020.
Malik also stated that construction of LNG terminal is expected to commence and private sector of the country would also use the terminal for the LNG import, reported Pak Tribune.
Earlier this month media reports suggested that the LNG terminal would be complete by November.
Pakistan intends to import 400 mmcfd (million cubic feet a day) of LNG and apart from Qatar, it will also look at other countries for supplies.
