In Cyprus: LNG strategy intact
The intention of energy companies active in Cyprus to provide Egypt with natural gas from offshore Israel's Leviathan field does not affect Nicosia's strategic plans.
This is what Energy Minister George Lakkotrypis told journalistson Tuesday after he briefed the House Commerce Committee on the government's hydrocarbons policy.
"It was expected, we were informed of this (development). It is part of phase one of the Leviathan project designed to provide significant quantities of natural gas to Israel and regional markets," Lakkotrypis said.
"…It does not affect the strategic energy plans of Cyprus," he said. US Noble Energy firm which leases plot 12 offshore Cyprus and its Israeli partners Delek Group have signed a non-binding Letter of Intent with BG International Limited.
