Maersk Drilling Secures Myanmar Contract

Maersk Drilling has secured a $33mn contract from South Korean Posco International Corporation for a three-well campaign offshore Myanmar, it said October 18.

The contract is expected to start at the end of 2019, with an estimated duration of 154 days. An additional one-well option is included in the contract, Maersk said. Posco will employ the drillship Maersk Viking for the project.

According to Maersk, Maersk Viking is an ultra-deepwater drillship which was delivered in 2013. In August this year, Maersk Viking completed its latest campaign in Ghana, which included a well drilled at an ultra-deepwater depth of 10,125 ft.

Posco operates the Myanmar Shwe project with a 51% interest, while other shareholders are India’s ONGC Videsh, Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise, Gail India and Kogas.
