Mammoth Indian Railways May Use Gas for Locomotives

The mammoth Indian Railways may soon begin using natural gas instead of diesel to power its locomotives, country’s Railways Minister said Thursday, according to news agency IANS.

“The Indian Railways proposes to utilise natural gas as fuel for its fleet of diesel locomotives in line with the international trend,” the minister said.

The minister added that this move will have a substantial effect on reducing the emission of carbon and in making the railway system environment-friendly.
