McDermott Wins Malaysian Jobs
US engineering firm McDermott has won two contracts for work in Malaysia, it said February 18. For Anglo-Dutch major Shell, an existing client, it will transport and install jackets, topsides and pipelines for the Gorek gas field. And for Sapura Exploration & Production (SEP), a new client, it will transport and install the jackets, topsides and pipelines for the Larak and Bakong gas fields. McDermott will also fabricate risers and spools for SSB and SEP.
McDermott is scheduled to use its installation vessel, the Malaysian-registered Derrick Barge 30, for these jobs, each of which is for up to $50mn.

The project management team will be based in Kuala Lumpur using the maximum Malaysian workforce to meet the local content requirement. Fabrication of the risers and spools is scheduled to be performed at McDermott's global execution center in Batam, Indonesia. The offshore campaign is expected to begin in Q2 2019.
McDermott now has nearly 700 employees in Kuala Lumpur which is one of the company's centers of excellence supporting global projects. Before it moved its regional headquarters there, the office had 90 employees.
