Mitsubishi, Georgia Power test 20% hydrogen blend

Mitsubishi Power Americas and Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, said June 10 they had successfully tested a 20% hydrogen blend to power a 265 MW gas turbine at a generating station in Smyrna, Georgia.

The test was conducted on one of six Mitsubishi M501G gas turbines at Georgia Power’s Plant McDonough-Atkinson facility near Atlanta. Tests were conducted at both full and partial loads and demonstrated a 7% reduction in carbon emissions compared to natural gas.

The Electric Power Research Institute participated in the test and will publish a detailed report on the results later this summer.
