Mitsubishi Hitachi Supplies Turbines for Indonesian CCGT

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) announced June 6 that it has delivered turbines to an Indonesian gas-fired power plant.

MHPS supplied a M701F gas turbine to state owned utility PLN (Persero) May 27. The turbine will serve as the core of a 500 MW natural-gas-fired gas turbine combined cycle (CCGT) power generation system at the Muara Karang Power Plant in western Java.

Completion and inauguration of the new system are scheduled for October 2020. The turbines were manufactured at MHPS' Takasago Works in Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture.

Civil construction work got underway at the site, which is around 10 km from Jakarta, in August 2018. In addition to the gas turbine, MHPS is to supply a steam turbine and auxiliary equipment. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation is in charge of manufacturing the system's generator while Indonesia’s Wijaya Karya (Persero) takes charge of civil construction and installation work, MHPS said.

The Muara Karang project was launched as part of a plan underway by the Indonesian government to boost power supply capability to 35 GW to meet the country's rapidly increasing power demand in tandem with economic growth.
