Mol Inaugurates Pakistan Gas Plant
Hungarian producer Mol has inaugurated a new gas processing plant in Kohat, northern Pakistan.
It inaugurated the new $15mn Tolanj processing facility which has 20mn ft3/d (7.3bn m3/yr) production capacity and it expected to add $31mn on annual revenues to the country’s economy, according to Pakistani news site The News.
The project was commissioned December 5, 2017 to process gas from the Tolanj X-1 and Tolanj West-1 gas wells, located in the TAL block, in which Mol owns a 8.42% stake as operating shareholder. Last year, the block’s production was over 85,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, which helped maintaining the company’s position as Pakistan’s second largest oil and condensate producer, its seventh largest gas producer and largest LPG producer, reported Hungarian news agency MTI.
The plant will supply gas to the northern regions of Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kohat, where the government has been actively trying to fight off terrorism and restore peace and economic growth. Pakistani prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who attended the ceremony, praised Mol's role in the country’s energy sector and said “the facility is a major headway in meeting Pakistan’s growing energy demands”.
Mol upstream chief Berislav Gaso said the company is looking to make further large-scale investments in Pakistan in cooperation with the local government. It has been in Pakistan since 1999 and so far it has made 13 discoveries and invested over $1bn in the country’s oil and gas sector through Mol Pakistan. Apart from the TAL block, Mol Pakistan also operates the Margala and Margala North blocks and it has participation in other three non-operated blocks, Karak, Ghauri and DG khan.
