Monadelphous signs A$200mn contract at Woodside's Pluto LNG

Sydney-listed engineering company Monadelphous has been awarded a A$200mn ($131.2mn) construction contract with Australian energy company Woodside for the Pluto LNG Train 1 facility, the company announced on July 26.

Under the contract, Monadelphous will perform mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and commissioning works required for modifications to the existing Woodside-operated Pluto LNG Train 1 facility and associated infrastructure near Karratha in Western Australia. These modifications will enable gas from the Scarborough project to be processed at the Pluto Train 1 facilities.

Monadelphous currently provides maintenance, shutdown, and brownfields project services under a long-term agreement at various Woodside-operated onshore and offshore gas production facilities.

The Scarborough project, situated approximately 375 km off the coast of Western Australia, encompasses the Scarborough joint venture, the Pluto Train 2 joint venture, and modifications to Pluto Train 1 to accommodate Scarborough gas. Gas extracted from Scarborough will be processed at the Pluto LNG facility, where Woodside is currently constructing Pluto Train 2.

Last week, Woodside reported that the Scarborough project was 67% complete at the end of the quarter ended June 30. The total estimated cost of the Scarborough project has increased by 4% to $12.5bn ($8.2bn Woodside share), driven by scope maturation of the Pluto Train 1 modifications project.

The Perth-based company announced on July 22 a definitive agreement to acquire US-based Tellurian and its Driftwood LNG project for $1.2bn, including debt.
