Montoir Claims European LNG Records
French LNG terminal operator Elengy claims at least two new European records. It said August 31 that it completed three LNG trans-shipments within seven days at Montoir-de-Bretagne, a first for a European LNG terminal, in the middle of that month. The third of those was also Montoir’s tenth trans-shipment since January 2018.
Elengy added that, buoyed by a strong global LNG market, its Montoir terminal in northwest France received 13 tankers for four unloadings, three reloadings and three transshipments last month – also a European record. The company is wholly-owned by France's main gas transmission operator GRTgaz, itself 75%-controlled by French utility group Engie.
Montoir is one of the European terminals used by Yamal LNG for the trans-shipment of its cargoes. LNG reloaded or trans-shipped is mainly directed to high-growth countries in Asia or South America where natural gas replaces oil and coal.
The aim is to help form a cleaner energy mix, Elengy added.
Elengy operates three LNG terminals in France: Montoir on the Atlantic coast, and Fos Tonkin and Fos Cavaou on the Mediterranean coast. The first two are wholly-owned by Elengy, while Fos Cavaou belongs to Fosmax LNG which is 70%-owned by Elengy. Photo: Trans-shipment of cargoes at Montoir © Elengy, Andre Bocquel
