Myanmar Gas Supplies to Thailand Affected Due to Maintenance Work

Natural gas supply from Myanmar has been suspended due to maintenance work during the Songkran holidays, state owned National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT) said Sunday.

However, Thailand's overall energy production will not be affected, a PTT executive stated.

Supplies from Myanmar’s Yetagun gas field will be suspended until 18 April 2016 due to scheduled maintenance work, PTT Public Company Limited’s Senior Executive Vice President of Gas Business Unit Noppadol Pinsupa said.

The suspension will reduce total gas supply by 570 million cubic feet per day. Due to lean demand season there will be no disruption to country’s overall energy supplies, NNT said.

During the suspension, PTT will allocate more natural gas from other sources, and release reserve LNG gas supplies to ensure continuous operations at power plants and prevent users of gas from being affected.
