Myanmar Power Ministry to Import Gas
Myanmar’s Ministry of Electrical Power has issued a tender to buy natural gas from domestic and overseas suppliers to meet country’s energy demands.
The ministry plans to buy 150 or 200 million cubic feet of natural gas daily before March of 2014 to operate power plants, Eleven Myanmar reported. Later the ministry will increase the amount to 500 or 600 million cubic feet of natural gas daily after 2014.
The chosen company will need to provide gas using a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) from Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The deadline for proposal and the prices is July 31.
Myanmar has recently decided to cut exports of oil and gas and use the fuel sources to meet local energy demand which is growing rapidly.
