Naftogaz Group highlights Ukraine's biomethane potential
Ukraine has the potential to produce over 20bn m3/year of biomethane, positioning the country as a vital contributor to Europe's energy landscape, Oleksiy Chernyshov, CEO of Naftogaz Group, said during the first Ukrainian forum on biomethane held on April 22.
Chernyshov identified Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Poltava, and Cherkasy regions as the most promising areas for the development of the biogas industry.
“We have already ensured the production of natural gas at a level that meets the needs of Ukraine. At the same time, we are sure that biomethane has a huge export potential and can become an additional source of energy and currency financial income for our country,” he said.
Moreover, Chernyshov confirmed Naftogaz Group's interest in exploring opportunities within Ukraine's biomethane sector.
“We confirm our interest in increasing biomethane production in Ukraine. We are also ready to use and provide our gas transportation and storage systems," he added.
