NATO Sees Russian Military Build-Up Along Borders With Ukraine
While Saipem is getting ready to commence works in the Black Sea on the offshore pipeline of the Russian pipeline to Turkey, NATO's chief claims that the Kremlin had stepped up its military assistance to pro-Russia separatist.
Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg had a meeting with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili on Monday (11 May 2015). The two spoke about options to deepen the partnership between the US-led organisation and Tbilisi.
"There has been a Russian build-up, both along the borders between Russia and Ukraine but also inside eastern Ukraine, with a steady flow of heavy equipment, tanks, artillery, ammunition, air defense systems and a lot of training," the Norwegian politician said during the news conference.
Also on Monday, Norway announced a NOK 40-million support package for Ukraine.
“The conflict in eastern Ukraine is affecting almost as many people as the entire population of Norway. There is an acute need for protection, shelter, medical assistance, food and water. Norway is increasing its support, and it is important that other countries also do their part” Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende commented in a separate press release.
Last week, oilfield service company Saipem said that it is back to work on the Russian pipe meant to bring gas to Europe avoiding Ukraine.
‘Saipem announces that it has received notice that the client South Stream Transport BV is lifting the suspension of work under the contracts, and that Saipem should commence works on the offshore pipeline in the Black Sea’ Eni’s daughter company wrote on Friday.
