Siemens, Total Work on Cleaner LNG

Siemens Gas & Power and French major Total have agreed to work on concepts for green liquefied natural gas (LNG) production, the German engineering giant said. The ultimate aim is to decarbonise liquefaction, an energy-intensive industrial process.

The Big Picture:

  • Total is working on numerous liquefaction projects, including several in Russia's far north: climate change is at the top of its agenda, as even in that freezing region there have been alarming signs of melting.

 


Gazprom Takes Swipe at US LNG Emissions

Russian gas supplies to Europe via the Nord Stream and TurkStream pipelines generate less than three times as much greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as US LNG shipments to the continent, Gazprom said.

Eni, South Korea's Kogas Sign MoU

Italy’s Eni and Korea Gas Corporation (Kogas) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in areas such as exploration and production, LNG projects, downstream and infrastructure projects, and in the circular economy and low-carbon energy projects, Eni said.

 

The Big Picture:

  • The two companies have been working together in the upstream business over the past decade in Africa, the Middle East, southeast Asia, and the Mediterranean. Eni and Kogas are partners in Mozambique Area 4 project and the Iraqi Zubair project.

 


Aker BP, Equinor Join Forces at Norwegian Licences

Norwegian producers Aker BP and Equinor have agreed on coordinated development of the Krafla, Fulla and North of Alvheim (NOA) licences off Norway.

 

The Big Picture:

  • Aker BP and Equinor both committed to fresh investments earlier this week, following Norway's granting of tax relief to the offshore industry, which has been hit hard by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and the resulting slump in oil prices.

 


UK Centrica cuts 5,000 Jobs

UK dominant retailer Centrica is restructuring and cutting 5,000 jobs, about half of which will come from management, it said. The aim is to create "a simpler, leaner group focused on delivering for our customers," it said.

 

The Big Picture:

  • The news comes shortly after BP announced a major restructuring  to deal with the Covid-related recession and collapse in energy demand, the first consequence of which was the cutting of thousands of jobs, again including many management positions.

 


Oz APLNG Ships 500th Cargo

Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) facility on Curtis Island in Queensland has shipped its 500th cargo, ConocoPhillips Australia announced.

 

The Big Picture:

  • APLNG, a joint venture comprising Origin, ConocoPhillips and Sinopec, is Australia’s largest producer of coalbed methane (CBM) and supplies gas to Queensland’s domestic gas market, while also processing CBM into LNG for exports.
