Naturgy Wins Award for LNG Innovation

An innovative and relatively inexpensive system for discharging LNG from ship to land has been awarded a prestigious technology prize in the US.

Spanish utility Naturgy's 'DirectLinkLNG' was recognised as the '2018 Innovative Energy Project of the Year,' which it said October 23 was the first time that award, made by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) has been conferred on a non-US company.

DirectLinkLNG consists of a floating system that allows the discharge of LNG from ship to land without expensive fixed infrastructures and in an environmentally friendly manner (see banner photo, courtesy of Naturgy). It was successfully demonstrated a year ago at the LNG terminal at Heroya in Norway.

The award was collected during the 41st World Energy Engineering Congress of the AEE on October 17 by Jose Miguel Moreno Blanes, project director (second from right) and Miguel Duvison Santiago, project technical manager (second from left). They were jointly nominated for the award by Antonio Miranda Bonet (far right) and Javier Cervera Alonso (far left), respectively president and vice president of the AEE Spain Chapter, both of Naturgy (photo below courtesy of the company).
