Neptune gets gold for ESG performance

Neptune has secured gold medal status from environmental, social and governance (ESG) ratings organisation EcoVadis, the company announced on July 13, putting it in the top 5% tier of 950,000 global companies that were assessed.

EcoVadis describes itself as the world's largest and most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings. It assesses companies' policies, actions and performance disclosures in the areas of environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.

Neptune said that EcoVadis' scorecard highlighted Neptune's disclosure of emissions data and quantitative targets, including its ambition to store more carbon than is emitted from its operations and from the use of the products it sells by 2030. Another bright spot was Neptune's environmental management practices and labour and human rights policies and procedures.

“The overall score has increased thanks to the publication of additional sustainability reporting," the scorecard stated, also drawing attention to Neptune's improvement in sustainable procurement, having "comprehensive policy that integrates commitments, qualitative and quantitative objectives on the management of its sustainable procurement issues."

Sustainanalytics also upgraded Neptune's ESG score in April, putting the company in the top 3% among those it had rated.
