New Chief for British Gas

The UK's biggest energy supplier, British Gas, plans to appoint Chris Weston as its new managing director.

Centrica, which owns British Gas, said it was proposing Weston, the current head of Centrica's US retail gas business, to succeed Phil Bentley. Bentley had held the post for six years, but has had to face public anger over increases in gas bills.

The BBC says the appointment, once given board approval, will be announced with Centrica's financial results on February 27.

British Gas has about 16 million customers.
