New Fortress finalises agreements for Mexico gas hub
New Fortress Energy said October 28 it had finalised agreements reached last summer with Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) to expand NFE’s natural gas supply to the state-owned utility and develop a new floating LNG hub in the Gulf of Mexico.
“We are pleased to complete these agreements and expand our strategic alliance with CFE, which we expect to result in the delivery of our first FLNG unit by mid-2023 and enable the construction of a new LNG hub off the coast of Altamira,” NFE CEO Wes Edens said.

The joint NFE/CFE plans were announced in July and include increased gas sales to CFE for its Baja California Sur power plants on Mexico’s west coast, the sale of NFE’s 135 MW La Paz power plant in the same area, and the development of the FLNG hub off Altamira, using multiple NFE units and CFE’s existing and underutilised capacity on TC Energy’s Sur de Texas-Tuxpan pipeline.
The first 1.4mn mt/yr FLNG unit is under construction at the Kiewit Offshore Services shipyard in Corpus Christi, Texas and is expected to be deployed soon after its mechanical completion in March 2023.
