New Standard Energy Carnarvon Basin Results Positive

New Standard Energy has said that its onshore Carnarvon Basin permits may have 33 trillion cubic feet of unconventional gas-in-place.

Technical reviews have strengthened potential prospectivity of Merlinleigh sub-basin. The company said that there are strong commercial drivers present for the Merlinleigh Project with access to major gas infrastructure.

The application areas are strategically located adjacent to the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline (DBNGP) which supplies gas to a large number of industrial, mining and domestic customers in Western Australia.

New Standard's unconventional resource estimate is based on the presence of thick, organic rich source rocks across a 1100 square kilometres area with excellent total organic content measurements, elevated hydrocarbon readings on historical logs and evidence of gas bleeding from various associated cores.

Merlinleigh is also estimated to have up to 1.2 trillion cubic feet of conventional in-place gas spread out across 4 key prospects.
