New UK Poll Finds 40% Respondents Against Shale Gas

The flurry of polls about shale gas in the United Kingdom suggests that the majority of British people don’t want fracking in their country. 

A recent survey by USurv.com on 1000 people found out that around 40% of the respondents were against fracking, while the proportion of people in favour of unconventional developments was just below 25%. An additional 11% would like shale gas developments, but not in its “backyard.”

“This latest poll reaffirms much of what we already know – that support and opposition for shale gas extraction are relatively balanced, with a sizeable proportion of the public undecided or ambivalent either way” Lee Petts, chief executive of the OESG, commented in a note.  

Current polls are following the political tide. Over the recent days, an increasing number of politicians called for restrictions for shale operations in the UK.
