Nordic Countries Support Energy Efficiency in Ukraine
Nordic countries voiced their interest to support Ukraine, with a mix of humanitarian support and financial backing to trigger energy efficiency in the country.
Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Finland and Denmark confirmed on Tuesday they plan a support through the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO).
‘This Nordic initiative will cover only a small part of Ukraine’s reconstruction and energy efficiency needs. The intention is to start a process that may expand during implementation and that could be linked to Ukraine's national programmes and other international assistance,’ reads the note released by Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.
NORDIC GOVERNMENTS TO SUPPORT LNG?
Nordic governments are increasingly showing some form of support to gas as a transition fuel. The five countries could also help Kiev to fund gas projects in the country.
Against this backdrop, Nordic companies are equally voicing the benefits of gas.
Skangass, part of Finland-based Gasum Group, said on Wednesday that liquefied natural gas (LNG) will significantly reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions.
‘The use of LNG will reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions of 170 000 tons carbon dioxide (CO2) from the two largest customers of Skangass' new LNG terminal in Lysekil,’ Skangass wrote on its website.
