Norway’s New Government Wants to Replace Oil with Gas

Norway’s incoming government reiterated its pledge to increase local use of national natural gas, which currently is mostly exported abroad to the UK and Continental Europe.

The incoming government announced it would foster the usage of gas in order to replace oil and liquefied petroleum gas.

Erna Solberg, Conservative leader and future prime minister, will take the helm of the country. She won the elections expressing her intention to sell its stake in Statoil and promote changes in the energy market.

She clinched a coalition deal with the Progress Party on Monday, announcing also investments in infrastructures. The new government is expected to take office next week.

Experts foresee that the country will pave the way to more competition in the national gas market. This would be part of a broader change of direction in national energy policies.
