Voice of Russia: Novak and Oettinger to discuss resumption of Russia-EU-Ukraine talks on gas in two weeks
Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak and EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger are to discuss the possibility of resuming the three-partite Russia-EU-Ukraine talks on gas in two weeks, European Commission's press-secretary Sabine Berger said to RIA-Novosti. Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Energy reported that in today's telephone conversation Novak and Oettinger agreed to meet at the end of next week to continue discussing issues associated with energy security. The place and date are to be announced later.
Ukrainian Energy Minister Yuri Prodan announced at a briefing on Monday that at present there has been no agreement on resuming the trilateral Ukraine-Russia-EU talks on gas yet.
Oettinger said earlier that he hoped to hold such a meeting before the EU summer break in August. After long and ineffective talks, Gazprom transferred Ukraine to advance payment for gas starting with 16 June, due to its many-billion debt. Now the Ukrainian gas transportation system only receives gas meant for Europe.
