Novatek Finds More Gas for Arctic LNG

Russian independent Novatek has confirmed two new gas/condensate deposits near its planned Arctic LNG 2 project.

It said September 18 that having drilled and tested well #294 at its Utrenneye field, the two new deposits were found which - according to Russian reserve classification - are estimated at 405bn m3 gas and 40mn metric tons of condensate. Both are within the Utrenneye license area, owned by Arctic LNG 2, Novatek added.

Utrenneye field, on the Gydan peninsula in the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district, had more than 1.5 trillion m3 gas and 65mn mt liquids of reserves at end-2017 according to Russian reserves classification.

Novatek CEO Leonid Mikhelson said, inclusive of the new deposits, Utrenneye's gas reserves now amount to about 2 trillion m3: "The new deposits expand the reserve potential of the field and open additional opportunities for implementing the Arctic LNG 2 project."

Speaking at Gastech in Barcelona on September 17, Mikhelson said the existing Yamal LNG (once train 3 is completed) plus Arctic LNG 2 would together have some 38mn mt/yr of production capacity.
