NYK, partners establish LNG carrier management company in Hong Kong

NYK, CMES LNG Shipping, and CETS Investment Management have established a management company for LNG carriers in Hong Kong, the companies announced in a joint statement on May 30.

OPearl LNG Ship Management Company, a joint venture comprising NYK, CMES LNG Shipping, and CETS, opened its office in Hong Kong on April 18. OPearl is NYK’s sixth ship-management company for LNG carriers, complementing those based in Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom, France, and Taiwan.

The joint venture was founded in 2023 by Japan’s NYK, CMES LNG Shipping Company, a subsidiary of China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., and CETS Investment Management, a subsidiary of the CNOOC Group, a Chinese energy company.

OPearl will manage LNG carriers, including six vessels that will be chartered to CNOOC Gas and Power Singapore Trading & Marketing.
