OGCI fires up CCUS Hub initiative
Oil & Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) is rolling out a new software interface that maps out carbon emission clusters to support the development of new carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) facilities, the company said on March 3.
The CCUS Hub platform can be accessed globally by environmental regulators, emitters and potential developers of CCUS hubs. Its interactive map tool can be used to identify 279 potential CCUS hubs in 56 countries, matching areas with heavy CO2 emissions against possible storage sites and cost estimates.
OGCI is also offering practical guidance through the software to those considering CCUS hub projects, and will make the lessons available online in PDF format. Further support is available through OGCI's Hubs in Action programme, which provides an overview of six CCUS hubs that emerged from the initiative.
The initiative wants CCUS Hub to become a common resource for CCUS hub stakeholders. An advisory board with members from select OGCI partners, including BCG and the Global CCS Institute, will be formed to oversee the new project.
OGCI was formed in 2015 and is led by CEOs from 12 leading IOCs including BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil and Saudi Aramco. It aims to establish several low-carbon hubs that link up different parts of the CO2 capture chain, including sources of capture facilities, transport, injection and storage.
