Oil India Achieves Record Gas Output

Oil India, India’s second largest national energy company in terms of total proved plus probable oil and natural gas reserves, recorder its highest ever natural gas output in fiscal year 2015-2016 (March-April), the company said September 24.

While natural gas production was 2.83bn m3 as against 2.72bn m3 during FY 2014-15, natural gas sales was 2.31bn m3 as against 2.18bn m3..

Speaking about natural gas production, the chairman and managing director, Utpal Bora said that the the company’s all-time highest natural gas production of 2.83bn m3 was achieved mainly due to successful completion of pipeline from Baghjan, Assam. The present gas production potential is about 8.5mn m3/d from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh fields and about 0.70mn m3/d from the Rajasthan fields. He also informed that work is on to increase the gas production potential to a level of 10mn m3/d in the north east region of India.

Bora further mentioned that for Oil India unconventional hydrocarbons like shale has emerged as an area of interest. The government has granted Oil India permission for exploration and exploitation of shale oil and gas in six nomination acreages of which four are in Assam, one in Arunachal Pradesh and one in Rajasthan.

LNG is another area where the company is actively trying to enter into and is studying a few opportunities in this segment of gas business, Bora said.
