Oman Moving Ahead With Several Gas Projects

Oman is likely to see several huge gas development projects coming into action in the near future, said Nasser al Jashmi, under-secretary, Ministry of Oil and Gas, at the ninth edition of Gas Arabia Summit being held in Muscat.

In a few months, Oman Oil Exploration & Production Company will put on stream the country’s first tight gas project from Abu Tubul field of Block 60, Al Jashmi was quoted as saying by Oman Observer.

Another tight gas project likely to move ahead is the development of gas reserves of Khazzan and Makarem of Block 61.

Government of Oman and BP are close to final agreement on the development of the reserves in Block 61. Once running it will add one billion cubic feet per day to the gas network by 2017 in the first phase, Oman Observer said.

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) continues to explore and develop additional gas and extend the life of existing fields, Al Jashmi said.

He added that Oman’s gas average daily production in 2014 will be 113 million cubic metres (mcm) from 103 mcm per day in 2013.
