Oman's Khazzan Tight Gas Project 45% Complete
Kazzan tight gas project in Oman is halfway through, according to BP.
Almost 45 percent of project and infrastructure work has been completed at the Khazzan gas field, which is being developed by BP, Muscat Daily quoted president of BP Oman as saying.
“Over 45 per cent of project and infrastructure works have been completed at Khazzan so far, and there are seven drilling rigs in the field, with 12 wells already having been drilled. We continue to invest significantly in Oman despite low oil prices,” Yousuf al Ojaili said in a press statement Monday.
Sanctioned in December 2013, the Khazzan project represents the first phase in the development of one of the Middle East region’s largest unconventional tight gas plays. Total investment in the first phase to reach the initial gas production target will be $16 billion.
BP is the operator of Block 61 and holds a 60 percent interest. Oman Oil Company for Exploration and Production holds remaining 40 percent interest.
Earlier this year, BP said first gas from the project is expected to flow sometime in 2017.
