OMV to Start Well Intervention Campaign in NZ
Austrian oil and gas producer OMV said January 13 it will begin well intervention activates in the Pohokura gas field in the Taranaki basin in February.
“Next month OMV Taranaki will be undertaking a planned campaign to re-establish the deliverability of the existing offshore wells through ‘well intervention’ activities,” it said. The Pohokura intervention campaign is scheduled to start in February and finish late April. “We anticipate that the onshore wells will be available to flow during this campaign with no impact on onshore production levels,” OMV added.

OMV New Zealand has a 74% share in the Pohokura gas field having acquired the 48% share from Shell late last year. OMV operates the field on behalf of the other joint venture partner Todd Energy (26%).
The Pohokura field is located about 4.5 kms off the Taranaki coast. It has been in production since 2006 and currently meets about 40% of New Zealand’s gas demand, according to OMV.
